On this day in 1999 a Spurs player scored one of the club’s greatest ever goals.
David Ginola hit the winner in an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Barnsley, evading four attempted tackles as he ran into the box, before sliding the ball into the net.
The goal saw Tottenham move into the semi-final of the FA Cup in the same season that they had already won the Worthington Cup. Newcastle would eventually defeat them in that semi-final, before losing in the final to Manchester United.
Despite the fact that United won the treble that season, it was Ginola who was named as both the PFA and FWA player of the year. As strange as that might seem now, it was his ability to pull off regular moments like this that saw him scoop both awards.
