Would this fee represent value for Wanyama?

The Sunday People have claimed that Spurs are inching closer to a deal to sign Victor Wanyama from Southampton.

They report that Tottenham will pay a fee of £11m for the Kenyan international who only has a year left on his contract.

Spurs may have a reputation for being tough negotiators in the transfer market, but Southampton are surely their equals, having secured some huge fees for players they’ve sold in recent seasons.

With that in mind, £11m seems a pretty reasonable fee for Wanyama if true. Yes, he’s only got a year left on his contract, but when you consider that Southampton paid £12.5m for him three years ago and that he was valued at over £20m last summer, it’s quite surprising.

The 24-year old has his flaws – such as his disciplinary record and erratic passing – but £11m would be a relatively cheap outlay to recruit a player who has proven that he can do a job as a defensive midfielder in the Premier League.

Would you be happy to see Tottenham bring Wanyama to White Hart Lane for this sort of money? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. He’s more back up for Dier than Dembele, Kante would be far better for that.
Problem with Wanyama is keeping him on the pitch, his disciplinary record is horrendous.
He is more in the mould of thug and battering ram than skillful player.
