Real Madrid general director Jose Angel Sanchez has confirmed the European champions rejected a bid from Tottenham for midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer.

There were some reports in England suggesting Spurs were interested in the Croatian, but it was unclear whether an offer had been made.

Sanchez has now revealed Madrid rejected at least two bids for Kovacic as they didn’t want him to leave the club.

“Kovacic is not for sale, we will never sell him,” Sanchez told Sportske Novosti (via Goal).

“If there are any offers for him in January, we will reject them. Last summer there were a lot of offers and questions about him.

“Juventus and AC Milan didn’t send offers, but Inter must have sent one. There was one from England, it was Tottenham.”

It will be interesting to see if Spurs return for the 23-year-old in January or next summer. Sanchez claims Kovacic isn’t for sale, but he may have to move for the good of his career if he doesn’t get more first team chances soon.
