Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is set to join Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan for £11 million, according to multiple reports.

Dembele’s contract expires at the end of the current season. He was believed to be close to an exit last summer.

A move failed to materialise and the Belgian made 13 appearances across all competitions for Spurs in the first half of the current campaign before injuring his ankle.

He is now back in training but may have played his last game for the club.

According to the London Evening Standard, among other publications, Dembele is closing in on an £11m transfer to Beijing Guoan.

The 31-year-old is currently in talks with the Chinese club, who are expected to pay Dembele much more than the £80,000-a-week salary he currently earns at Tottenham.

The Standard’s report suggests Spurs want the deal to be completed sooner rather than later, which could indicate the club is willing to bring in new players this month.

In a press conference on Monday, Mauricio Pochettino urged the club to spend more money in the transfer market in order to challenge for major honours.

  1. Big mistake to let Dembele go in the middle of the season with champions league knockout stages approaching. He was a understandably tired at the beginning of the season but has another few seasons left in him yet. Think his early season tiredness is why many have just written him off now. Still top drawer against the best.
