Tottenham are close to signing Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho has been desperate to buy an understudy to Harry Kane all summer and been linked with a host of names in recent months – with The Sun reporting earlier today that Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik was in talks with the Londoners over a £25million move.

However, the Mail believe that Mourinho has finally got his man, who scored 24 goals in all competitions for Benfica last season as they finished second in Primeira Liga.

Vinicius joined from Napoli last summer and after an impressive campaign in Lisbon, is set to spend the season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – with the two clubs discussing the possibility of an option to buy.

Spurs have been keen on signing cover for Kane since the departure of Fernando Llorente to Napoli at the end of 2018-2019, and Mourinho will undoubtedly be delighted – especially after he started Erik Lamela upfront in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea.
