It’s a good time to be a Tottenham supporter. Spurs play Newcastle away and despite the Gerodies’ early-season form they should start as favourites. The experiment of playing kids in Europe is working out well for Harry, and if Tottenham look like the fourth best team in the country, it’s on the back of legitimately strong performances against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
The next five games present a familiar challenge for the fans – these are games that Tottenham should be winning but time and time again, they tend to drop points in between.

Newcastle United v Tottenham (Sunday, 16th October)
Newcastle are a lofty 4th in the league table, three points ahead of Tottenham having played a game more. A lot has been said about the dynamism of both teams and their stronger-than-expected performances this season but on evidence of the past few seasons, Tottenham have been consistently improving and have players with more experience and know-how to win such games than Newcastle.
Having said that, there are no clear favourites here. If Tottenham win this, they go 5th (or 4th if Liverpool don’t beat United on Saturday). More importantly, a win here will go some way towards cementing their position as the better team in North London this season.
Blackburn v Tottenham (Sunday, 23rd October)
Blackburn have lost three of their four home games this season and despite a win against Arsenal they show no indication of going anywhere fast (insert your own chicken shop joke here). Blackburn aren’t as bad as they’ve been made out to be but they don’t have the necessary personnel to do more than occasionally trouble the established sides and this is something the owners should have fixed in the summer instead of banking the TV money and trying to make a quick profit on their investment.
So, the worst kind of game for Tottenham then – an away game they’re favourites in.
Tottenham in the Europa League
Along with a home game against QPR (who look good to stay in the Premier League this season), Spurs have two games home away to Rubin Kazan, arguably their strongest opponents in the Europa League group stages. Rubin Kazan are top of the group and with Tottenham’s policy of playing the kids in Europe it’ll probably stay that way after the two games.
I can see Tottenham winning at White Hart Lane – but picking up even a point away from home to Kazan will require a fair amount of experience and some good luck. Playing regularly in Europe is only a good thing, regardless of how bored Harry is with the Europa League, so hopefully Spurs can get 4 points out of the available 6 and get closer to winning their group.

Any team having their sights on 4th place or some silverware should be aiming to achieve max. points. We have an able squad, some of whom are coming out of injuries & of coarse the youth who could deal with the situation. The only game I am slightly concerned is QPR played 3 days after Rubin Kazan.In this game I would like to see Gio partner ADE for ashort spell, just to see if he blends in.

This is what I’d like to see as well.
A 4-2-3-1 is a more defensive lineup but the two holding mids would allow the attacking 4 to commit more to attacks rather than them always keeping ready to track back (or not in VdV’s case).
Spurs are taking the Europa League seriously.
It is not our fault that none of our Europa group opponents would survive in the Premier League and that no one cares about the competition compared to the Champions League and that we can field a second string and still top the group and that TV companies don’t bother to cover all the games.
It is UEFA that have done that. We just have to waste time jumping through their hoops and play endless games until it gets to the stage when we face a team that could finish mid table in the Premier League.
I have 2 tickets for Sundays game. I was told that they would be sent 1st class, but have just Been told by the ticketing provider that I have to collect them from WHL ticket foyer on Saturday morning. Is this actually open? The spurs site says it isn’t and the ticketmaster guys seem to be all over the place.
