It looks like the Bassong deal has been done and subject to a medical, Spurs will sign the player for £8m. A lot of people out there are moaning and groaning about the fee for a player coming from a side that has been relegated, but I’d prefer to wait and see him play first before forming an opinion. About ten minutes of his first appearance, should be enough for me to conclude whether he’s a world beater or another steaming pile of crap.
With the news that Woodgate needs another operation, signing another centre back seemed inevitable, although apparently Bassong will be suspended for our first game against Liverpool. I’d expect Ledley to start against them anyway having enjoyed a tough pre-season consisting of walking up and down in a swimming pool.
That will see Bassong make his bow against Hull, while Ledders takes a well earned break. The addition of Bassong, will surely mean that we can now get rid of Pascal Chimbonda. The futures of Hutton and Dawson also come into doubt, although Bassong has now pledged his international future to Cameroon and will be swanning off to the African Nations Cup come January. It’s Freddie Kanoute all over again.
