On This Day In Spurs History: 10th May

1995 – On this day in 1995 Spurs didn’t play, but there was a match taking place that will live in all Tottenham supporters’ hearts. I remember looking at the draw for the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup this year and saying to my mate: “Wouldn’t it be brilliant if Real Zaragoza played Arsenal in the final and Nayim scored the winner in the last minute?”

Unfortunately I didn’t add the detail of that goal being scored courtesy of an amazing lob from the halfway line, otherwise I would have been hailed an a modern day Nostradamus. Here’s a video of the great event, complete with a funny foreign commentary.

1998 – Spurs drew 1-1 with Southampton, in a match that was notable for being the last game played for Spurs, by three notable players. Gary Mabbutt concluded his remarkable Tottenham career, as did the Spurs youth product David Howells. This game also marked the last played by Jurgen Klinsmann in his second spell at the club and he signed off by scoring a goal.
