Two more ex-Portsmouth players linked to Spurs

by Matthew Harris on January 18, 2011

With Spurs reportedly getting a £4m windfall if Darren Bent joins up with Aston Villa, we’ll have some change left out of the Steven Pienaar deal to go spending! Perhaps more importantly, the Bent deal, if it goes through, should kick start this transfer window and see it move from rumours to action.

Having been linked earlier in the month, the Sulley Muntari link has appeared again, with the Ghanaian international clearly unhappy at his lack of football at Inter. Muntari is 26 and has been capped over 50 times for his country. He played under Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth and you wonder if this is the only reason that he has been linked with the club, or if there’s any truth in the rumour.

In the same vein, the name of Glen Johnson appears today in some quarters with some sources suggesting that a fee has already been agreed. Harry has been linked some veteran right backs so maybe he’ll go the other way with Johnson.

Whatever happens, it seems that we might see some more transfer activity involving Spurs before January is out. In the meantime, it might be a good opportunity to write a newspaper column and link every Portsmouth player that appeared under Redknapp. Expect to see rumours involving Sylvain Distin, John Utaka, and Sol Campbell… OK, maybe not.

johnson is utter crap, he can’t defend & is not much better at going forward than hutton.
i hope this thread is some sick ramblings of a delusional mind, etc. etc……

With Pienaar signed, sealed and delivered, it really doesn’t make sense to sign another midfielder like Muntari. I mean, come on, does Harry think he’s going to play a 4-6-0?

I could get behind Glen Johnson. Hutton, while serviceable, has not been stellar by any means, and Corluka isn’t much better. That’s an area (besides striker, of course) that could use some improvement.

Still think we need a little more ooomph in the middle, more spite and steel. To be fair I think Wilson’s getting there after some pretty crap performances, but if Van Bommel or Joey Barton were available and gettable I’d go in that direction and also perhaps flog Keane, Crouch and or Pav, and try and get Suarez in for whatever those yield.

Johnson cannot defend at all. Muntarti -what’s the point and what does he do? As for Joey Barton, he should not be allowed within 200 miles of WHL. We are Tottenham Hotspur FC, we don’t employ ‘people’ like Joey Barton

Stevie Wonder can even see how crap Johnson is.

We don`t want him, He has nothing to offer us that we have already got in place.
