Spurs have been linked with Spanish ace Juan Mata for some time now and a decision over the player’s future could be imminent with reports from his club Valencia suggesting that they could see him leave.

While the Spanish side are keen for him to stay, their head coach Unai Emery had this to say about the situation:
“Valencia has to be prepared for a footballer having to leave, either because is he is not wanted or because some big club wants to sign him,” Emery said.

“We want him to stay and Mata has also expressed his wish to remain at Valencia, but we know that if a big-money offer comes in from any club and it’s good for both the player and the club, it could lead to his exit.”

While Spurs may be in the hunt, other sides such as Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool are thought to be interested. Some reports are describing Mata as a forward, but he plays mainly as an attacking midfielder and while his scoring record is good, sides other than Spurs may have more of a suitable vacancy in their squads.
