A couple of weeks ago we looked at some of the younger players in the Spurs set up and argued as to whether they should be sent out for further loan spells or whether the time had come to give them a chance in the first team squad.

While we considered Harry Kane, Andros Townsend and John Bostock, Jake Livermore was overlooked – largely because it seemed he was on the verge of joining Rangers on a season long loan.

At the weekend, Jake scored the winning goal in our 3-2 win over Brighton with a calm finish after a defensive error. It wasn’t as high profile as his previous goal against Barcelona in 2009 but it was a vital strike in the context of the game itself.

While we can’t judge him on that performance, does Livermore deserve a place in the squad next year or should he expect another loan for this season?

At 21, he isn’t the youngest of our fringe players, so has the time come to test him in the Premier League, either at Spurs or in the type of deal that has seen Steven Caulker loaned to Swansea and Kyle Naughton to Norwich?

  1. I know Jake and he told me that Harry told him that he’s in first team plans but rangers did want him.I would also like Barton on a free

    • Joey Barton? Aren’t you asking WHY they are letting him go for free? They signed him for £5.8 million! They can’t wait to get shot of him. Wrong attitude, troublemaker. 29 next month, so wrong age too. Livermore would be better off on loan to a Wigan or something.

  2. Jake being over 21 means he will be too old this year to have a free place, plus Bale, Rose and Walker all over 21 this year.
I like giving youth a chance but you need a squad of full internationals to keep pushing on.

  3. livermore looks useful. i’d like to see him feature in the 25 man squad along with kane. we need players that will be as proud pulling on the famous lily white shirt as the fans are…and i’m sure these youngsters will do us proud….come on tottenham, this is the year that we prove big money signings and wages through the roof aren’t necessary…..(well apart from 1 decent striker signed!!!) i’m sure we’ll be right up there. look at man c. they are spending money like nobodys business but the harmony in the squad isn’t there and i’d consider us on a par with them (except we play better looking football!!!) let’s try and stay positive—>

    • I agree that City certainly are no better than us. If/when Tevez goes, then they won’t be as good as us – despite Aguero joining. Add the CL distraction, and they are there for the taking. I only believe that Kane should get a game or two so that he can show everyone how far he has to go. I remember Barnard, Rory Allen and Jamie Slabber all getting their chance up front at Spurs, and then not coming close to making it. Kane may have something, but he needs more game time on loan.

  4. Hi,

I can’t see any movement in terms of players in at the moment so I guess we are stuck with what we had. Yes Livermore should have a squad place instead of the likes of Keane, Jenas etc..

I know it was only against MK Dons but Haryy Kane was hungry which I haven’t seen in a player of ours for ages. With the likes of Defoe who swan around and think they don’t have to do much to keep there place and the moan when they don’t play….give me a hungry Kane instead of these premadonna’s any day of the week….

  5. if it means Jake taking up a squad place in the 25 i would allow a loan til jan, pref in the prem. he needs to make a big impact this year though, he’s at that age now. seems tidy when he plays. hopefully we’ ll see him push jenas out the picture
