Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has told Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to ‘show more fight’ after some listless performances so far this season.

While Pav is one of only three recognised strikers at White Hart Lane, new arrival Emmanuel Adebayor has quickly settled into a first choice partnership with Jermain Defoe which has left the Russian consigned to the bench.

“Hopefully he will come to life,” Redknapp said of Pavlyuchenko. “When he is up for it, he can play.

“But there’s a good understanding developing between Adebayor and Jermain Defoe.

“Those two are going well. Rafa van der Vaart plays off the main striker as well so there is competition there for a place.”

Our first choice striker force is looking sharp but if injuries require Pavlyuchenko to start in the Premiership, he will need to up his game from the performances seen so far in the Carling Cup and Europa League.
