Dawson return lifts injury gloom

by Matthew Harris on January 4, 2012

Spurs were already in the midst of an injury crisis when Brazilian midfielder Sandro limped out of action on the half hour mark of yesterday’s win over West Brom. The news got worse as Sandro’s replacement Jake Livermore left proceedings after a clash of heads with Younes Kaboul.

The situation has left the club with few right sided options in midfield with Scott Parker nursing a knee injury and Tom Huddlestone a long term absentee.

That will leave an interesting selection in prospect for the game with Cheltenham at the weekend but one man who is set to start is Michael Dawson who returned to the bench for the match with Swansea.

Dawson has been out with an Achilles problem but the game against league two opposition is the perfect chance for him to ease his way back into action.

“Michael will play on Saturday,” said manager Harry Redknapp. “It will be his first game back. Hopefully he’ll be fit.

“We were struggling for cover at Swansea. He’d only trained once but he put himself up for the bench, that’s typical of him. He’s a fantastic lad.”

Another player likely to return is Aaron Lennon but with injuries and members of the fringe squad that played in the Europa League now out on loan, it will be an interesting starting XI this weekend.

Falque looked pretty good in Europa league, Carroll for CM, Fredericks at LB, Daws and Bassong at CB, maybe even Charlie could play RB and Pav up front, Gio on the wing. Whatever team we put out will surely beat Cheltenham Town won’t it?

It’s not just the amount of injuries, but where. All of our defensive mids are out — which is exactly where we were for the first 2 games of the season.

We have center mid cover, but not defensive minded. I’d go for something like this:

Friedel
Corluka Bassong Dawson BAE
Walker Kaboul Modric Bale
Defoe
Ade

Subs: Niko, Piennaar, Pav, Cudicini, Rose, Gio…

Can’t wait for Hudd to come back.

You want to play Modric, Bale and Ade against Cheltenham?

I think we should rest them for the league personally.

I’m just thinking about how the squad stands in general — what kind of line up do we have with all the injuries.

Rest the entire 1st team against Cheltenham.

Why is Corluka starting instead of Walker?

Really couldnt give a flying fuck about f.a cup this season, lets just concentrate on the premiership.

Cudicini
corluka bassong dawson fredericks
Dos santos Nicholson Carrol rose
falque
Coulibaly.

I would love to see Coulibaly he wasnt eligible for the Europa League and Ceballos………I fancy Bostock to get a game I know Redknapp mentioned he was annoyed he couldnt include him in the europa squad……

I just think Harry has too much respect for the cup if it was me I would go with:

Cudicini
Corluka Dawson Bassong Rose
Gio Bostock Carroll Krancjar
Pav Kane

It’s Cheltenham probably the worst side we could possibly get, play it like a glorified reserve game.

Cudicini
Corluka Dawson Bassong Rose
Pienaar Livermore Carroll Krancjar
Pavlyuchenko Dos Santos
Livermore’s injury wasn’t that bad. Subs(1,7,27,45,43,bostock) Lennon in because HR sad he would like to give him some game experience before returning to the league.

Also did anybody else think that harry’s lack of confidence game in our second team/rotation cost us the Swansea game?
