Simon Dawkins found himself as a surprise inclusion in Spurs 25 man squad list but any hopes of an appearance in the Tottenham first team this season have been ended with news of another loan spell in the MLS.

Simon has returned to San Jose Earthquakes, the side he played for last season and while Spurs fans are unclear as to what the 24 year old could offer his parent club, Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop is delighted to welcome him back.

“Simon did very well for us last season and we’re really happy to have him back,” said Yallop. “He’s talented on the ball, will take guys on and not only will set teammates up, but will create his own chances. With a year under his belt in our league, he knows what to expect now and should be ready to once again be a key piece for us.”

One deal is therefore done but could Dawkins be joined in the MLS by David Bentley? Our midfielder was also a surprise inclusion in the squad but with no immediate prospect of first team football, his agent is also eyeing a loan spell in America.

“This is something that is interesting for David, as it will also get him fit. He would like to go there on loan as soon as possible,” said Rob Segal.

While not at the forefront of our minds at present, it would be interesting to see how both players fare across the pond.
