Rumours linking Barcelona with a love for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale may be over for now at least with suggestions that a £50m price tag has forced the Catalans to look elsewhere. Speaking to the Spanish press, Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta has confirmed these stories.

Earlier this month, Zubizarreta said,

“It’s not true that I have been in London negotiating with anyone and I have already said a thousand times that 90 per cent of ‘signable’ players are at Barca or in the youth team.”

That wouldn’t necessarily rule out an approach from elsewhere but if Spurs can maintain their league form and clinch a Champions League spot then it could help to secure the short term future of the flying Welshman.
