There has been a fair bit of speculation in the newspapers this week about a possible Spurs move for Athletico Madrid’s 24 year old centre forward Adrian. However, on further scrutiny and given the players’ overall record, many Spurs fans might be hoping it’s a non-starter.

Adrian’s overall career is patchy and he is some way down the pecking order when it comes to international honours. Although he has performed well at under 21 level for Spain, he has yet to play a full international.

He’s been around a bit too and his career includes stints at Malaga, Deportivo, Alaves and Oviedo before signing on a free for Athletico last season.

His overall league scoring record is around one goal in every six but he has performed well in the Europa League this season and that seems to be the factor in linking him with first Manchester City and then Spurs.

There’s a £15m buy out clause in his contract but according to the Mirror, that won’t deter Tottenham. However, on balance, it looks as if the club would be better served looking elsewhere.
