Our team to face West Brom – what’s yours?

by Matthew Harris on August 24, 2012

As Andre Villas-Boas revealed in his press conference yesterday, Younes Kaboul has been ruled out of this clash but otherwise, there are no new injury concerns.

“Unfortunately, Younes had some discomfort in his patella tendon, so he went to see a specialist to analyse his knee. We’re not looking at anything serious,” AVB said.

That could conceivably give a chance for Michael Dawson to prove his worth to the club while a more likely option could be to bring in Jan Vertonghen to partner William Gallas.

Last weekend, Spurs played Lennon, Sandro, Livermore, Sigurdsson and Bale across the middle in a 4-2-3-1 and there’s no suggestion that this will change unless the coach switches to 4-4-2. Van der Vaart will be desperate to play but is likely to have to settle for the bench once again. Tottenham are favourites to beat West Brom via Bwin and other bookmakers, but they still need to start scoring goals in order to win any games.

Up front, will AVB keep Defoe after scoring last weekend or will Ade move straight back into the side?

Here’s our team to face West Brom but what’s yours?

I would like to see a 4-4-2 formation with:
Walker – vertonghen – Daws – BAE
Lennon – Gylfi – Sandro – Bale
JD – Ade

Could be very affective.

Greetings from Denmark anyway, COYS

Borris August 24, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Ade isnt fit to start lads! :( – Hopefully get him on as soon as tho.

Alfie August 24, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Parklaner August 24, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Would go with that except JD for Ade

Parklaner August 24, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Sorry, and Rafa for Livermore

Istillluvking August 24, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Spot on. And then moving Sigurdsson into Livermores slot.
We are home at THE LANE……………

Mark August 24, 2012 at 12:18 pm

I’m loath to leave guys out that scored in their last game (and the game before for England)! Ade does have to come in, so I’d try Defoe on the right, cutting inside as more of a orthodox forward in a 433. Lennon can come on 2nd half to stretch the tired full-back.

I’d also like to see Townsend or Carroll given a chance off the bench. Townsend is an unknown quantity for the Premier League and I’d love to see him get a chance.

Rob August 24, 2012 at 12:19 pm

My team for West Brom would be more attacking, we are at home!

GK: Friedel
DEF: Walker / Dawson / Vertonghen / BAE
DM: Sandro
M: Lennon / Siggy / VDV / Bale
S: Ade

Bench: Carlo, Defoe, Gallas, Livermore and anyone else as long as it is not Jenas!

robbie August 24, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Good team but maybe play Defoe for the first 60 and bring on ade just because lack of fitness and also Defoe is looking sharp!

geoff vader August 24, 2012 at 1:57 pm

That would be my team too (with JD starting). Ade won’t be fit enough and JD deserves the chance to continue what looks to be a decent bit of form.
This team keeps everybody happy too (i.e VDV).

Might have to play Caulker instead of Dawson though if the move to QPR is on.

Daniel August 24, 2012 at 9:55 pm

I’d reverse that, actually. Let Ade put in a shift early to get him started towards match fitness and bring on Defoe as an impact sub after 60 or 70 minutes. Ideal.

Istillluvking August 24, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Why play Daws, when AVB wants to release him?

josh August 24, 2012 at 12:20 pm

vdv instead of livermore such a bad footballer rather play jenas

maximus August 24, 2012 at 12:22 pm

i think he must play defoe after scoring last week and also vdv done a good job last week BEFORE he gave away the pen

Joe August 24, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Here here, have to play a striker who scores every week, what else can you do? You can’t give an ego like Ade a straight in to the team, he can wait till 70mins or till defoe plays shit. And Van der vaart is our most creative attacking player, actually understands football, is not just about running fast (bale, lennon).

robspurs99 August 24, 2012 at 12:23 pm

dont think avb will play 4-4-2 unless were loosing.3-1 to the spurs, come on lads….. hello denmark…

josh August 24, 2012 at 12:38 pm

agree with you on that one cant play 4-4-2 just get outnumbered in the middle the premier league has changed hardly no team plays two up front any more and if you do your liable for a spanking as you get dominated in the middle and we would have one of the most technically gifted midfields in europe with sandro vdv sig because all of thier first touches are spot on and passing is just a formality

Istillluvking August 24, 2012 at 9:36 pm

Hello Denmark???
Are you the Rob living in CPH?

Istillluvking August 24, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Sorry, one of the Rob’s….

robspurs99 August 24, 2012 at 12:24 pm

i agree josh..

luke bridger August 24, 2012 at 12:28 pm

Bale vaart Sigurdsson
Adebayor Befoe

HAte lennon!!

Joe August 24, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Walker Caulker Vertonghen BAE

Sandro Sigurdsson
Lennon VDV Bale

Jayme August 24, 2012 at 12:34 pm

Agree with the defence and midfield, Ade for JD

BdaSpur August 24, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Agree except my grandad has bridge.

And August 24, 2012 at 12:29 pm

a 4-3-3 of….

Walker/ Dawson/ Vertonghen/ BAE

Sigardsson/ Sandro/ VDV

Lennon/ Ade/ Bale

Tony Borg August 24, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I agree with Alfie & Rob,

Walker Gallas Vertonghen BAE
Lennon Siggurdson Bale
We have to at least player one off the striker like VDV or replace him with defoe, only one holding either Sandro or Livermore not both.

Jayme August 24, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I just hope he doesnt start JD.

Has to be a 4231

Walker Verts Caulker BAE
Sandro VDV
Lennon Sig Bale

One surprise is Steven Caulker, trust me I watched WBA last week and there 4 strikers are a handful, Long and Odemwingie are very quick, too quick for Gallas and Lukaku and Fortune are very strong, too strong for Gallas.

Gallas performs best against Strikers with movement and excellent technical ability, not speed and strength…….Caulker is huge, quick and strong he has to play alongside Verts for me….

EssexSpur August 24, 2012 at 12:41 pm

Can’t imagine AVB letting us try 2 new CB’s at the same time. I expect Vertonghen and Gallas to play at the back. Replace Siggy for VDV and stick with Defoe. He’s in form and i’m not sure how match fit Ade is.
Walker Gallas Vertonghen Benny
Livermore Sandro
Lennon VDV Bale

Bench: Cudicini, Caulker, Naughton, Carroll, Siggurdsson, Townsend, Adebayor.

Dick Smith August 24, 2012 at 12:46 pm

I would love to see :

Erik Thorstvedt,

Justin Edinburgh, Gary Mabbutt, Colin Calderwood, Christian Ziege,

Ossie Ardiles, Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, David Ginola

Gary Lineker, Teddy Sherringham.

Spurslover August 24, 2012 at 12:55 pm

did you not mean pat jennings on goal??

Istillluvking August 24, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Where is Glenn Hoddle??????
One of my favourite sentences in football: Waddel to Hoddle, Hoddle to Waddel. GOOOOOAAAALLLLLL

Kyle August 24, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Walker C

joel August 24, 2012 at 12:54 pm

walker, gallas, vort, BAE
sandro, sig
vdv, defoe, bale,

You cant drop defoe at the moment, so make him play in behind ade. We are at home so can afford to do this, as well as swapping livermore out for sig in the center.

ryan harris August 24, 2012 at 1:30 pm

youd start ade ad he has had not one bit of a pre season ? and defoe has scored 2 in 2? gimme a break

robbie August 24, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Defoe Looks sharp and Ade is lacking match fitness Maybe bring him on at the hour mark.. Don’t Think we need two DM’s for a home game against West Brom personally! prediction 3-1 Siggy, Bale and Defoe COYS!!!!

Bernard August 24, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Walker, gallas, vertonghen, BAE
Sandro, Sigurdsson
Lennon, Bale,

Mark August 24, 2012 at 2:08 pm

We are at home, lets go for it!

Pikey August 24, 2012 at 2:19 pm
