Michael Dawson has barely been a fringe figure on the peripheries of Tottenham’s squad this season but the centre half looks set to make his first start against Carlisle this evening.

Proposed moves to Sunderland and QPR fell through as the August transfer deadline approached but similar rumours have already started to emerge. For now, Daws is set to make that first start but assistant manager Steffen Freund has urged him to use it as an opportunity.

“He realises that he is not playing at the moment but things can change in football,” Freund said. “The most important thing is how he reacts and he likes to play for Tottenham.

“When you are a strong club like Tottenham there is a lot of opportunities. Andre said that from the beginning of the season.”

Dawson has also been challenged by the emergence of Steven Caulker who he may well be playing alongside this evening. It may be an opportunity for Michael but at this point, it seems more likely that a proposed transfer will be resurrected this winter.

  1. Michael Dawson is one of our very best defenders. Im glad that he is getting the chance to show what he can do. I think that most Spurs fans agree.

  2. Agree with Little Legs.
Daws with Ledley King formed a formidable defence partnership for Spurs- Proven. Ask Drogba.
Central defence for Spurs should be Daws or Caulker, Vertonghen, ( Kaboul, when he is fit again). Daws and Kaboul play in the same give-all-you got aggresive style. They are winners.
No disrespect to Gallas. He is 33, temporary, and tend to back-pass, and tend to lose his wind in the 3rd halve of each game. Also tend to lose out to taller strikers.
    Bring back our ball-winner AVB.

  3. Daws is a leader, which we are sadly lacking at the moment. Gallas should never be captain, I don’t think he should even be in the team, Daws may not be the best footballer in the club, but has a bigger heart than anyone, and loves the club with a passion….Maybe in the future Jans or Moussa will be captain, but not yet….Want him to stay at the club at least for this season….COYS!!

  4. Dawson has heart but no legs. He’s not a fit for AVB’s system. Our best CB pairing at the moment is Vertonghen and Caulker, with Kaboul replacing Caulker when fit. Dawson has the heart of a lion but that’s all for naught when teams will run right by him. Selling him for nearly 10mil would be a great bit of business.
