Clint Dempsey almost arrived unnoticed at Spurs Lodge on deadline day as the world’s media were set up and waiting for Joao Moutinho. The former Fulham man had been widely tipped to sign for Liverpool but on that final day, a late switch saw him re-join former team mate Moussa Dembele at White Hart Lane.

It didn’t take too long for Clint to register his first goal for the club and it couldn’t have been a more important one. The player himself declared that he was thrilled with his ‘special moment’ at Old Trafford on Saturday.

“I’ve been in England five-and-a-half years and it’s my first time getting a result here as well, and my first time scoring against them,” Dempsey said after the game.

“It was a great time to open my account and the importance of the game made it even more special.”

For someone who doesn’t play as an out-and-out striker, the American international has an impressive striking record. He scores important goals too and we’ll all be hoping there’s plenty more to come after his first for the club.

  1. Keep the Clint Dempsey articles coming, and watch the US viewership of this blog and Tottenham increase. I love watching the other US players in the EPL, but there’s something special about Clint that I believe leads a lot of American soccer fans to watch.
