No not James Tomkins – this one involves Dutch International and AZ midfielder Adam Maher who is being linked with a potential move to the Premier League in January. At 19, Maher has already broken into the Dutch side and with two full caps to his name is attracting attention from around Europe.

Manchester City and Chelsea are two of the clubs mentioned in the gossip columns but some are suggesting that Spurs are in pole position with the potential to offer the player first team football on a regular basis.

That’s the theory anyway but do we really have any vacancies for Maher to step into and make his own? The flanks are sorted and no-one’s shifting Sandro and Dembele in the centre  – some will still question the value of Clint Dempsey in the middle but is AVB really going to sell the former Fulham man after just five months?

Coming back to Maher and the fee suggested is £12m and while that may seem like a lot for a 19 year old, it could be around half of the total cost in a year or two’s time. Holland’s young player of the season looks a brilliant prospect but will Adam Maher at Spurs really happen?

  1. spoke to him this morning and he is well up for a move to spurs ..

going to speak to RVP again tonight and see if he will quote and make you all eat humble pie

  2. AVB prefers a 4-3-3 – he would fit into a midfield with Sandro and Dembélé is he did that. Dempsey is a versataile squad player, well suited to provide competition as one of the wide strikers, or as the front man if needed – just so long as AVB practices efficient squad rotation.

  3. What fickle fans you are! Selling Dempsey? Where do you come up with this nonsense? He missed preseason and suffered accordingly, is just now showcasing his ability and is starting to get to his true form and you propose selling him. I simply don’t get the anti-Dempsey vibe. He is a good player, just like Siggy they need time to blend in with the squad.

  4. Buy, buy, buy. This is the sort of player Spurs shoud go for.
We can not pay the fees asked for establised players (unfortunately like Willian). We have to buy them before they get that expensive.
We have a squad that can take us to CL. This season it is a matter of beating the lower teams, and we actually do that pretty well, compareed to the celski’s, arses and poos.
Once we are there. We can get a big signing or hopefully two.
The future is bright for Spurs.
In Levy and AVB we trust.
