With twenty minutes to go in Saturday’s early kick off it looked as if the game could go either way but one more flash of brilliance from Gareth Bale sealed the points against Newcastle. You have to ask where we would be without the Welshman this season but after another brilliant display, Andre Villas-Boas gave credit to the whole squad.

“We started well and could have gone 2-0 up in the first half,” said Andre on the club’s official website.

“If we made it 2-0, you never know, but it puts us in a good position.

“Newcastle’s equaliser put us under more pressure, that’s normal, and we responded very well in the second half, took control of the situation, took control of the game, created many opportunities.”

The fact that we came so close to making it 3-1 in the dying stages reflected our overall dominance but the questions will continue to be asked in regard to the strikers and if Bale doesn’t find the net then who will?

An early exit from the FA Cup means that we have a break in the league until Monday the 25th of February when we travel to West Ham but before that game there are two ties with Lyon in the Europa League – the first at White Hart Lane this Thursday.
