While he hasn’t quite reproduced the form displayed in our first Europa League tie of this campaign, Andros Townsend retained his starting place in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Norwich at the weekend. On Sunday Erik Lamela may well come in for his first start against Cardiff but in the meantime, Andros is likely to get a further chance to impress during the visit of Tromso on Thursday night.

Like many of Tottenham’s fringe youngsters, Townsend enjoyed a number of loan spells at lower league teams but the player himself believes that his time at QPR last season was a major turning point in his career.

“The time I spent at QPR last season was massive for me. I would say it was almost make or break because it was my chance to show what I could do at the highest level,” Townsend said.

“I have confidence in my own ability, but until you show people you can play in the Premier League that counts for nothing.”

That confidence shone through against Dinamo Tbilisi last month but until the winger turns in a similar display against Premiership quality opposition, a section of fans will remain unconvinced. For now, Andros Townsend should get the opportunity to shine against Tromso this week but will he be back to a role as impact sub this weekend?
