Spurs were pre-tournament favourites to lift the Europa League title even before a ball was kicked in anger against Dinamo Tbilisi and five straight wins in the competition have helped to cement that position. Current best odds on Tottenham taking the trophy now stand at 13/2 with Ladbrokes but who are our closest challengers?

There is a considerable gap between ourselves and second favourites Fiorentina who are quoted at 11.00 with 888Sport. The Italians also have a 100% record from three games and maintained that run by beating Pandurii 3-0 at home last night.

There’s an even bigger space between the Serie A side and Valencia who are right out at odds of 20/1 with BetVictor. The Spanish squad has had its issues this season and as far as the Europa League is concerned, they haven’t always looked convincing and are currently behind Swansea in their group.

Lazio can also be backed at 20/1 with Bet365 and Spurs will be familiar with the Italians from last season’s campaign. This is another team who have started slowly and are currently second in Group J with just five points from three games.

Further down the list and if you are looking for value, Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt have a similar record to Spurs in Group F – Three games, three wins – eight goals for and none against. Eintracht are out at 39/1 with 888Sport and at this stage of the campaign, could be worth a stake to make the final at least.

Spurs have been in this position before and when the Champions League teams drop down, the knockouts kick in and anything can happen. From a purely betting perspective and while trying not to show any bias, I would probably avoid us at 13/2 and look at Eintracht Frankfurt to become this year’s FC Basel.
