As we all know by now, Spurs have been drawn away to Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup and it is the toughest of all draws if we are to proceed and hope to lift a trophy that we last took in 1991. Of course, there have been some great Cup matches between these two sides in the past but if you are looking to clutch at an omen, the third round tie of 1982 is the one to aim for.
Spurs and Arsenal were drawn to play at White Hart Lane. We were the holders and it was expected to be another close encounter. I was there but remember very little of the match except for the one goal that decided it as Garth Crooks’ tame shot squirmed under the body of the usually reliable former and future Spur Pat Jennings.
We went on to repeat our cup success that year and while omens can usually be set aside, it’s always worth remembering an important win. Sadly, no YouTube footage seems to exist of the match so look on their site for the 1991 semi instead.
As for the upcoming game, it’s due to be played over the weekend of 4th / 5th of January but will almost certainly be chosen for live TV Broadcast. Full details to be confirmed.
