Whoever comes in as Tottenham manager in the summer will realise that our defence is in need of some tweaking so it’s worth looking at some of the players linked with a switch to White Hart Lane. Today, when the papers aren’t talking about Frank De Boer, they are identifying two Italian defenders, both of whom could be interesting choices.

The first of these is Davide Astori, a 27 year old currently playing for Serie A side Cagliari. Astori has seven full international caps to his name and after club chairman Massimo Cellino took over at Leeds, the expected sale of the Sardinian based club may lead to some high profile departures.

The player has been a consistent performer for Cagliari over the last five seasons and could be available for around £8m

Meanwhile, Zenit St Petersburg’s Domenico Criscito is another man set to depart in the summer and could fill a much needed role in the left back position. However, the 27 year old is said to prefer a return to his homeland.

This link has appeared before and while Criscito would be another solid pick for the next transfer window, it may be that the story has simply resurfaced due to the link with Andre Villas-Boas – the current boss at Zenit.
