It could be a summer of upheaval at Newcastle United after a difficult campaign both on and off the pitch and there are reports that manager Alan Pardew is looking to bring in some big names in an attempt to save his job.

The Magpies could be particularly short of wide players with Hatem Ben Arfa, Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveux all unhappy and likely to head the queue for the exit door. With that in mind, a link to Tottenham’s Andros Townsend seems an obvious one to make but after a campaign that featured more hype than end product, this may not be such an implausible shout.

Newcastle may be forced into panic buying if they are forced to sell a number of their players and with Spurs awaiting a new coach, Andros Townsend’s injury and absence from the World Cup means he will have to start all over again in terms of breaking into the Tottenham first team. An easier alternative may be guaranteed game time at St James’s Park.
