Incredibly, Spurs are the only team in the Premier League to have not made a single purchase in this summer transfer window. That’s a surprising fact, even if you leave out last season’s frantic buying ahead of the Gareth Bale sale.

So why the delay? Presumably Mauricio Pochettino is assessing his new squad and the upcoming tour to the US will give the head coach another opportunity to see who should remain and who is simply deadwood.

In the meantime, who will be the first to sign up ahead of 2014-15? There are no obvious candidates although Ben Davies is the name that keeps doing the rounds today. Supposedly, a fee has been agreed with Spurs and Swansea but that piece of ‘news’ came through yesterday and there have been no further developments.

Esteban Cambiasso was also supposed to be a strong link but that has passed by while everything else seems to be speculation. Antoine Griezmann seems unlikely and destined to follow an earlier rumour involving Julian Draxler – over as soon as it had begun.

So who will be the first new member of the squad? Perhaps the new coach might even go with what he has!!

  1. Rio Ferdinand joined QPR for nothing – so, technically, Spurs are NOT the only team in the Premier League not to have made a purchase (yet)….

  2. What will Pochettino learn from the N.American tour other than which youngster has potential? With Ade,Sandro,Chiriches,Lloris,Paulinho,Bentaleb,Chadli,Dembele and Vertonghen all missing because of injury/illness/holiday after WC, the nucleus of the 1st team is missing. Also a tour is useful in getting new signings to bond with new team mates, but as there haven’t been any( as usual, yawn, yawn), this tour is a waste of time.

  3. The best bit of news I heard all transfer window so far was that Juve were looking at Pochettino as their next manager….. That hope was dashed later that day. Only Tottenham would think signing the man who lost the most premier league points from winning positions (and 3 of those were against the man we sacked) would help us kick on from 5th or 6th, what an acquisition!

    • Unlike AVB, Pochettino didn’t join us with outright PL failure on his CV, but eighth with a Saints team containing half a dozen players destined for big money moves to CL clubs doesn’t seem like that much of an achievement, certainly not justifying the usual OTT pre-season optimism on most of the Spurs websites. We’ll struggle to do better than last season unless the players who struggled so badly then suddenly click now, but I’ll reserve my judgement on Levy’s latest managerial punt until we’ve got some games against the big boys under our belts, and Poch’s status as hero or zero will be clearer.

  4. hoping for Davies, Lovren and Depay… or El Shaarawy.. that would be sexy.. Lamela on right and Shaarawy on left 😀
