In a development that will have surprised precisely no one, Cologne defender Kevin Wimmer today confirmed to the German media that he is on his way to Spurs.

The 22-year old centre-back is the first confirmed signing of the summer and it bodes well for future purchases. Over the years the club have often taken a long time to identify and secure targets, meaning that new signings are far from being settled in once the season starts.

Far better to get all transfers done early and give Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff a full pre-season with all of his squad. Hopefully Wimmer will be the first of a few new faces needed to refresh the squad.

There’s not much footage of video Wimmer out there, but this clip of the Austrian international will put you in mind of a certain German who had a pretty successful time at White Hart Lane.

    And no, this guy isn’t anything special, he is just another unproven defender with no EPL experience what so ever and will be exposed week-in, week-out. Spurs need to realise that we should be buying from within the EPL.

    Look at all of Spurs players, notice that all the black ones are crap for Spurs! It’s an obvious trend, and its reflected by the recent report of “best and worst players in EPL this season) which shows mostly lazy blacks getting the “worst” spot.

  8. I doubt he’s the new Klinsmann. I’d think he has his own qualities, however, that involve physical presence, hard work and discipline in a part of the Spurs side that has needed strengthening.
