Reports from Spain claim that Spurs have agreed a deal to sign Pau Lopez from Espanyol.

The 21-year old goalkeeper will join on a season-long loan for a fee of £520,000, with a £6m option to buy him next summer.

Tottenham have moved decisively following the injury of Hugo Lloris in the season opener against Everton. With the club captain out for a month, the squad lacks a goalkeeper to cover for Lloris’ deputy Michel Vorm. Signing Pau was a no-brainer considering that a bid had already been made for him earlier this month.

Pau is highly-rated in Spain. He has represented his country at U21 level and was in the full Spanish squad for the friendly against Bosnia, just prior to Euro 2016.

Long-term he can provide cover for Lloris, allowing the 32-year old Vorm to be moved on, while being groomed to be the French international’s successor. Pau is known to Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff from their time at Espanyol, when the keeper was coming through the youth ranks.

  1. Not happy at the moment we need a proven goalie to back up Lloris. Is that Newcastle Gk fit yet? We need more midfield cover. Carol and Mason out leave bendelab. Dier and Wanyama can play together just give them both playing time. We need another striker. If Kane or Janseen gets injured then what? The season is not looking good as yet.

  2. Vorm will do! Although this is a good way to try before we buy a new backup. Also there isn’t a player is like sold especially chadli! We have a small enough squad without selling
