The Times recently reported that Tottenham enquired about the current PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez last month.
Mahrez signed a new deal with Premier League champions Leicester at the beginning of the season. At the time, most reports suggested the Algerian turned down a £40 million move to Arsenal to stay with the Foxes.
It now appears Spurs are also interested in bringing the player to North London, but Leicester rejected an offer last month. Claudio Ranieri made it clear the player wasn’t for sale at any price.
Unlike last season, Mahrez has failed to set the Premier League alight this term with his side currently in the midst of a relegation dog fight.
Despite Leicester’s poor form, Mahrez still clearly has a lot of quality. The winger is reminiscent of Erik Lamela on the ball, perhaps a little more decisive with his final product.
However, he lacks the grind of Lamela, and questions would be raised concerning Mahrez’s work rate if he was to join Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino expects all of his players to work for the team — Mahrez would be no exception.
