The agent of Mateo Kovacic has rejected reports the Real Madrid playmaker could join Tottenham in the next transfer window.

Back in March, the English press claimed Spurs are ready to make a bid for Kovacic this summer. Reports suggested the Croatian has a £21.8 million release clause in his contract, but Madrid are willing to listen to offers of around £17.5 million.

Kovacic signed a six-year contract with the La Liga giants in 2015 after an impressive spell with Inter Milan, but has failed to develop at the Bernabeu due to the quality of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in Madrid’s midfield.

That’s why Kovacic is often linked with a move away from Spain. But his agent, Nikky Vulsan, thinks the 23-year-old will remain with Madrid for the foreseeable future.

In quotes published by ClubCall, Vulsan said: “There is not any news. Or rather, there are no chances that this will be possible.”

He added: “Mateo has a very long contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2021. So I do not understand all these rumours, all this speculation about his future.”

There’s a good chance Kovacic’s situation will change come the summer, especially if Madrid sign yet another world-class midfielder.
