Sam Allardyce was the guest on Sky’s Monday Night Football clash between West Ham and Huddersfield.

And the former England manager told an interesting anecdote from his short time in charge of the national team.

Allardyce famously lasted just one game as Three Lions boss – a 1-0 win in Slovakia in September 2016, just over a year ago.

Four Tottenham players started the game: Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Eric Dier and Harry Kane. Dele Alli was on the bench.

Speaking on MNF, Allardyce revealed Rose played the entire 90 minutes with a hamstring injury that nobody else was aware of.

“He pulled a hamstring and never said anything until after the game had finished. Which wasn’t very pleasing for Tottenham and Mr Pochettino as I know, but for me that showed real character.”

As a coach who puts a big emphasis on fitness, it’s easy to understand why Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t best pleased.

Rose has struggled with a number of injuries over the years, but the knee problem that has kept him out since January has been the worst of the lot.

The 27-year-old is expected to return to training in the coming weeks.
