Tottenham have made an enquiry about 17-year-old Werder Bremen midfielder David Phillipp, according to Sky Germany.

The teenager scored 18 goals and provided 21 assists for Bremen’s U17s side last season. This term, he has already scored twice and set up four goals for the U19s.

Liverpool are also believed to be interested, but Bremen academy director Bjorn Schierenbeck claims the club is keen to keep hold of Philipp.

“I wouldn’t want to rule out the interest in David from the English clubs,” he said. [Via the Mirror.]

“But I don’t know exactly how firm it is. We would be very eager to continue working together with David.

“We have already held talks with him, and explained what his future career with Werder can look like.”

Spurs fans might be concerned that the arrival of a player like Philipp would further block the path to the first team for academy star Marcus Edwards.

Keanan Bennetts, another attacking midfielder, has also impressed for Tottenham’s youth side this season.
