Rafael van der Vaart has admitted he would consider a return to Tottenham if he goes into coaching after his playing career.

The Dutchman, who now plays for Danish side FC Midtjylland, spent two years at Spurs before leaving in 2012.

Van der Vaart told Press Association Sport journalist Tom Allnutt he still has a connection with the club.

“I love working with young players,” said the 34-year-old, “and if I do coaching Tottenham would be a good place because it is always in my heart.

“Whenever I can I watch their games on television. I still have a special feeling. That feeling, it never goes away.”

Van der Vaart also spoke about Harry Kane’s future following rumours about potential interest from Real Madrid.

He said: “The thing is nobody says no to Real Madrid. But when I see Harry Kane now at Tottenham, the club also want to be bigger and bigger, winning the league, the Champions League, with a new stadium. There is so much to play for.

“I hope he will stay. Real Madrid of course is something special but Spurs are special to him too.”

  1. In 1961 Spurs were up there with Benfica & Real Madrid, that is where we should be aiming to get back to. Why did our standards slip so badly?
