Tottenham and Everton are set to battle it out for Valencia’s £35m-rated striker Rodrigo, according to reports in Italy.
The Spain international has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists so far this season, leading to interest from a host of clubs.
According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Spurs and Everton are chief among those suitors. Brighton are also said to be interested.
Rodrigo, 27, began his career at Real Madrid before joining Benfica in 2010, where he was on the scoresheet against Tottenham in a Europa League knockout game in 2013-14.
Prior to that he spent a season on loan at Bolton Wanderers. The striker moved to Valencia in 2015, but struggled to settle until the current campaign.
Spurs are reportedly willing to sell Fernando Llorente this summer, meaning the club will likely be in need of a new striker next season.
However, during Harry Kane’s absence through injury, Heung-Min Son has been filling in as a centre-forward, suggesting Tottenham can cope without fresh cover for Kane.
Further cover will be need, though, especially if Son picks up an injury, so perhaps Rodrigo is a genuine option.
