Tottenham are leading the race to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to reports in France.

Earlier this week, reports suggested Spurs have identified Ndomebele as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele.

Dembele has put talks over his Tottenham future on hold until after the World Cup, but he is expected to leave England for either Italy or China in the coming weeks.

As a result, Spurs will be in need of a new central midfielder – Ndombele is the latest name from a long list of possible targets.

Ndombele spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Lyon from Amiens, but he is expected to make that move permanent for a fee in the region of £9 million this summer.

However, interest from the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea could see Lyon immediately sell the France Under-21 international – it is believed they will value him at around £35 million.

And according to French outlet Telefoot, Spurs are “several steps ahead of the competition” when it comes to the race to sign Ndombele.

The report also claims Tottenham have a “great chance” of getting the 21-year-old.

Ndombele has scored just once and provided six assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for Lyon, but in fairness he is more of a defensive midfielder.
