Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to join Swansea City on a season-long loan, according to the Sun.

Carter-Vickers spent last season on loan at two Championship clubs – Sheffield United and Ipswich Town – before returning to Spurs this summer.

The defender has voiced his intention to stay at Tottenham and fight for his place in the first-team.

But with Toby Alderweireld seemingly set to stay at the club after a move to Manchester Untied failed to materialise, Carter-Vickers’ task has become much more difficult.

With that in mind, another campaign away from the club on loan may be the best course of action for the 20-year-old at this stage of his career.

And according to the Sun, Swansea are due to announce a loan deal for Carter-Vickers this week.

It’s difficult to judge whether the American has much of a future at Tottenham. His path is certainly blocked for now and Spurs are likely to buy another centre-back if Alderweireld leaves in January or next summer.

Patience is obviously required on Carter-Vickers’ part, but he may want to move on permanently if more first-team opportunities don’t come along in north London.
