The FA are considering appointing Tottenham’s John McDermott as England technical director, according to the London Evening Standard.

Current technical director Dan Ashworth is set to leave his role and so the FA are looking for somebody to take over, and McDermott is believed to be among the candidates.

The Standard claims McDermott currently oversees every age group below the first-team at Spurs and also has a say when it comes to transfers – he can’t have been very busy over the summer.

The report also suggests McDermott is happy at Tottenham and may not be keen to join take up a role with the the FA, who are also said to be considering Liverpool duo Alex Inglethorpe and Steve Heighway.

There is no indication as to whether Spurs would seek a new technical director should McDermott join the England set-up.

Tottenham and the FA are certain to be in close contact given the amount of players shared between the two, including Three Lions captain Harry Kane, midfielders Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Dele Alli, and defenders Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose.
