Eric Dier has revealed Sergio Ramos congratulated him after the Tottenham midfielder’s memorable challenge on the Spain captain on Monday.
England ran out 3-2 winners in Seville thanks to Raheem Sterling’s brace and a Marcus Rashford strike, and Dier set the tone for the victory with a crunching early tackle on Ramos.
The 24-year-old got the ball but was booked for his follow-through. Ramos didn’t make anything of the challenge.
And Dier has now revealed what the Real Madrid defender said to him following the incident.
“He just congratulated me. I just think the ball was there to be won and I think I won it. I don’t think it was a foul or a yellow card, really,” Dier said after the match (via the Mirror).
Dier was excellent throughout the game, shielding the back four and often pressing higher than his fellow midfielders, Ross Barkley and Spurs teammate Harry Winks.
Dier will be hoping he has done enough to earn a regular spot in the England team going forward – he certainly looks suited to the new 4-3-3 formation.
Tottenham take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.
