Tottenham are interested in signing Sunderland starlet Josh Maja but could face competition from Manchester City, according to the Mirror.

The 19-year-old has scored 11 goals in League One already this season and is said to be attracting interest from Championship side Bristol City, who may make a move for him in January.

However, the Mirror claims Tottenham, Manchester City and Southampton are all monitoring Maja’s situation. The teenager is said to be valued at around £6 million by Sunderland.

Spurs are in need of a centre-forward to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane, something Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen have failed to do to a sufficient level over the last three seasons.

Maja could be an interesting alternative. Mauricio Pochettino has a proven track record with nurturing young talent, although he might want somebody older than 19 to help Kane out.

In theory, Maja would relish working with Kane and improving his skills by watching one of the best strikers on the planet.

But if Manchester City are interested, he might find it difficult to turn the champions down.
