Tottenham held talks with Christian Pulisic before he joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund, according to the London Evening Standard.

Chelsea announced a £58 million deal for Pulisic on Wednesday. The USA international will spend the rest of the season at Dortmund before moving to Stamford Bridge.

The Standard claims Spurs spoke to the Pulisic ahead of his Chelsea move, but the report doesn’t give any other details.

Presumably, Tottenham either couldn’t meet the 20-year-old’s wage demands or he had already agreed to join Chelsea.

Pulisic is considered one of the brightest young talents in Europe. He has scored three goals and provided four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.

It is likely he will play against Spurs for Dortmund in the Champions League Round of 16. He also featured against the Londoners in last season’s group stages.

Tottenham failed to sign a single player over the summer, so January arrivals are possible.

Hull City striker Jarrod Bowen is said to be a target. Reports suggest Spurs may have to pay £20 million for the 22-year-old.
