Serie A side Roma are keen on bringing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld to the Italian capital, according to Sky in Italy.

The Belgian defender, who triggered an clause in his previous contract earlier this year, has a £25m release clause, but Spurs are yet to receive any offers for the 30-year-old.

That clause will only be activated if he leaves Tottenham at least 14 days before the end of the transfer window, which is two weeks tomorrow.

Alderweireld was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this time last season, but opted to stay with Spurs – and started 33 Premier League games in 2018/2019, more than any other outfield player at the club.

He is expected to return to pre-season training tomorrow, as indicated by Belgian journalist on Twitter, and then attend Tottenham’s tour of China and Singapore at the end of the month.

Roma are looking for a replacement for Kostas Manolas, who recently joined Serie A rivals Napoli.
