Christian Eriksen will not be leaving Tottenham unless he secures a move away from the club before Sunday’s north London derby, Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed.

The Dane has been heavily linked with the exit door after admitting he may seek a new challenge this summer, but Pochettino says there will be no time for him to secure a transfer on Sunday or Monday.

Real Madrid have been tipped to make a move for Eriksen, though it doesn’t look like the La Liga giants will make a move before Monday’s European transfer deadline. Bayern Munich, Juventus and PSG have also been credited with an interest at one time or another.

And Pochettino has now confirmed Eriksen will remain at Spurs if he doesn’t seal a transfer on Saturday. In other words, if he is in the squad to face Arsenal, Eriksen will be staying.

According to Sky Sports, he said: “The good thing is that if tomorrow (Sunday) nothing happens, it’s because it’s not going to happen on Monday.

“On Sunday, it’s the game [against Arsenal], and after there’s no real time to do something. Tomorrow we are going to know if Christian is going to be with us or not. That’s the most important thing.”

It all means we will know whether Eriksen is staying in just a matter of hours, and at this point it looks very likely he has run out of time to leave. Indeed, it will be a relief when the window officially closes so that Pochettino knows he can rely on Eriksen until January at least.
