Tottenham are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to reports in Germany.

The 22-year-old has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal. And Germany outlet Sport Bild claims he could on the move after a string of impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

The report suggests Monchengladbach plan on selling Zakaria for club record fee of over €50 million fee. The current club record is the €45 million Arsenal paid for Granit Xhaka in 2016.

Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund will apparently try to keep Zakaria in Germany, but they are said to be facing competition from Spurs, Manchester United and Inter Milan. It is believed Dortmund had a €22 million bid rejected in the summer of 2018.

There’s a good chance Tottenham will be on the lookout for a new defensive midfielder either in January or next summer. Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are expected to be moved on in the near future, so a replacement will be required.

Harry Winks is ideal in the holding role for certain games, but Mauricio Pochettino could do with a more combative player against stronger opposition – perhaps Zakaria fits the bill.
