Christian Eriksen does not want to leave Tottenham January, instead favouring a free transfer away from the club next summer, according to Football Insider.

The Dane has entered the final year of his contract and will be able to speak to foreign clubs about pre-contract terms in January. Alternatively, he could be sold for a fee in the winter transfer window, but it seems he is not keen of his future being decided for him.

Football Insider claims Eriksen does not want to be pushed out in January as he wants to be in control of his destiny. Essentially, he is more likely to be able to choose his next club if he waits until the summer instead of speaking to suitors who have bids accepted by Spurs midway through the season.

Eriksen was heavily linked with Real Madrid in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise. There has also been talk of interest from Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, but recent reports suggested Tottenham received no offers before the English deadline or the European deadline.

Whether this update has any effect on Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to play Eriksen remains to be seen, but many fans are beginning to lose patience with the playmaker’s indifferent performances.

  1. If he doesn’t sign a contract, like it looks he won’t or don’t agree to be sold in January if suitors come for him, I wouldn’t play him anymore.

    • Maybe you will some day realized. Players come and go. The only loyal ones are the fans. Dont get emotional over a player that wants to move on. If the clubs has the upperhand we will be singing a different tune. Levy just circumvented the LoCelso deal to save $20m. If clueless Poch continues to play him, CE can only be professional and go perform.
