Tottenham fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief after the club confirmed illness is keeping Harry Kane out of today’s Premier League game against Everton rather than an injury.

Journalist Alasdair Gold sent supporters into panic mode after revealing on Twitter – unconfirmed – that the England captain would miss this afternoons game at Goodison Park due to injury, which could have only occurred on Saturday after Mauricio Pochettino didn’t mention Kane in list of doubts or absentees when he spoke to the press on Friday morning.

But after announcing the team, Tottenham explained that Kane’s absence is down illness.

Whilst it’s a severe blow to Spurs’ chances of ending their long way for a Premier League victory this afternoon, it means that Kane will likely return to the starting XI when Mauricio Pochettino’s men travel to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Kane’s absence means there is a rare opportunity for Lucas Moura – who makes just his fourth league start of the campaign and first away from home – to impress as he starts up front alongside Heung Min Son.
