Jose Mourinho spoke to Thomas Meunier about the defender joining Tottenham but Daniel Levy was not keen on a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain star, according to reports in France.

Back in April, we relayed a report from French outlet L’Equipe that claimed Spurs had made contact with PSG over a summer move for Meunier – but the Belgium international has now agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

L’Equipe are now back with another story on Tottenham’s interest in Meunier, suggesting a disagreement between manager and chairman was responsible for the transfer’s failure to go through.

The report, as relayed by Sport Witness, claims Mourinho personally spoke to Meunier, who apparently wasn’t against the idea of joining Spurs.

However, it is believed Levy was not on the same page as Mourinho and so Tottenham ended their interest in the 28-year-old.

It’s unclear why Levy did not want to pursue Meunier, especially with the squad lacking quality right-backs – Serge Aurier continues to frustrate while Kyle Walker-Peters is out on loan at Southampton and faces an uncertain future.

  1. I would say it was down the players age and wage. Free he might be but free does not mean cheap. There is better out there and it’s early days yet in the window.

  2. Great news but not unexpected !!

Unless our Manager/Coach/Director of football and Scout (LECVY ) wants the player the spurs “Coach” can do one
JM is finding out what’s its like now , following in the footsteps of JOL, HARRY and POCH ….he has to learn that you get what you are given Like or Lump it !!!!!!!!!!!

  3. To renyar I am no Levy lover and agree with a lot you are saying. I made the point about Liverpool loosing CL final to Madrid and look were they are now. Look at us. The only thing we have is a bucket load of debt in the form of the stadium. Levy and Lewis look at silver ware as cheap mans gold it’s the real thing they want not some trophy.
Never change just a lot of fans can’t see it.
I still think though there is better right backs out there.

  4. Levy is always problem in the past and same today that is old story
Levy should know that Spurs really need properly right back

  5. We are never gonna win any silverware because we never sign anyone or anyone good. Look at all these top teams and they are just poring in good players and that’s why they win, Why cant levy grow up and actually help us win something by buying some good players. U can tell he doesn’t like the club because he puts nothing into it.
