Erik Lamela is ‘appreciated’ by clubs in Italy but is unlikely to leave Tottenham this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The attacking midfielder has struggled for starts since returning from a calf injury, likely in part down to the fact he ignored coronavirus restrictions over the Christmas period and was photographed at a party.

But Lamela’s lack of game time could also be a result of Spurs being well stocked in his position, leading to ongoing suggestions he could be on his way out.

However, Romano – always reliable when it comes to transfers – believes Lamela does not want to leave Tottenham in the current window. Equally, Spurs do not want him to depart just yet.

The journalist adds that Lamela is ‘appreciated’ by Serie A clubs, meaning there could be genuine interest in taking him away from north London in the summer.

But for now it seems Jose Mourinho still values the Argentine as an important member of the first team squad. That said, it will be interesting to see what happens in a few months time.

  1. Sure clubs in Italy appreciate him and would love to sign someone who injures himself brushing his teeth and taking 8 weeks to recover from an injury that normally takes 2 to 3 weeks to get over. And this several times every year.
