Reports in Spain believe that Gareth Bale is set to retire from football after this summer’s European Championships.
The Welshman ended up enjoying a successful campaign with Tottenham, scoring 16 times in all competitions in 34 appearances, with his brace at Leicester on Sunday helping the north London outfit qualify for Europe for a 12th season in succession.
Despite a stop-start campaign on his return to Spurs, the 31-year-old showed that he’s more than capable of competing at the highest level – with his 11 Premier League goals coming at a better minute per goals rate than anyone in the league.
Following the victory at Leicester, Bale was quizzed on his future, but gave nothing away by saying that he will make an announcement after the Euro’s.
With just one year remaining on his Real Madrid contract, Tottenham are likely to try and convince Bale to return for a third time, but ABC believe that the winger is considering having his contract in the Spanish capital terminated, and then hanging up his boots following the conclusion of the European Championships.
