Hugo Lloris has admitted he was “really upset” with his mistake against Southampton but says he was pleased with his second half recovery as Tottenham held on for a much needed victory.

The Spurs captain attempted to turn on the ball but ended up gifting a goal to Danny Ings, which saw the Saints draw level not long after Serge Aurier’s red card.

Speaking after the game, Lloris explained that these kind of errors come with the territory of being a goalkeeper.

Goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane – as well as two excellent saves by Lloris – ensured the Frenchman’s mishap was not costly.

Mauricio Pochettino defended his skipper, insisting Lloris should not be blamed as he is told to “play that way”.
